Great Eastern Cutlery is very particular about which entities they will allow to be a dealer or distributor for the Great Eastern, Northfield, or Tidioute line of knives. The factory works very closely with dealers to insure they have the tools necessary to provide customers with the finest cutlery and service available.
Great Eastern Cutlery initiated production in 2006. They produce the Northfield Cutlery, Tidioute Cutlery, and Great Eastern Cutlery brand knives in very low numbers to insure that the supply is sufficient to demand, but low enough to make them highly prized collectibles.
All Northfield knives and Tidioute knives are made with 1095 carbon steel; while the Great Eastern Cutlery knives are made with stainless steel; 440C specifically for all general production GEC branded knives. The Northfield Cutlery brand is the premier line with extra attention to details such as pinched and/or lined bolsters, swedge grinds on the blades, and mirror finishes. The Tidioute Cutlery brand is the workhorse line with satin finish and flat ground blades for those heavy duty users that don't mind getting their hands (and their knives) a little dirty. Great Eastern Cutlery branded knives are for those that prefer to maintain a stainless knife that requires a little less attention after a good days work.
Great Eastern Cutlery cuts, jigs, and dyes their own bone, and some woods. They cut their own stag and match all slabs to be a perfect cover for that heirloom quality knife they will adorn. They stamp their own blades, shields, liners, et.al. Except for specialty tempering of the blades, they are the one-man band of knife production.
Every knife that leaves the factory is ready for a lifetime of trusted work in the pocket of the person that is just the same. Every component molded by skilled craftsman hands to insure complete satisfaction.
